QUESTION: "Dear Siggy:
How do you deal with people who always think negatively? How can you get them to see the positive in difficult situations?
Ms.x"

Hmmm. First, I think it is wonderful of you to care about people, and to want them to see the good instead of the bad. I recommend to you that you read my comments through this entire thread, and also my comments in the negative people thread in this folder. I believe you will find what you need by following this course of action.

I do want to offer you another angle on language, for the benefit of other readers. Remember that when you use big generalizations like always, never, everybody, nobody, etc. in what you say, they usually reflect big generalizations in your thoughts. Big generalizations are rarely accurate, and they can hide the details that would reveal the truth. So when I hear people say that another person 'always' this or 'always' that, I sometimes offer this suggestion: Look and listen for counterexamples, times when they don't 'always'.

Thanks for asking,
Siggy
